LIS 101 Introduction to Information Literacy
Introduction to basic strategies and skills related to locating, evaluating, and using print and digital information resources. Information technologies, determining information needs, types of information sources, searching for and retrieving information, evaluating information for relevancy and quality, properly documenting use of information, and applying information ethically.
LIS 397 Special Topics
Selected topics in substantive areas of informatics and emerging technologies. Variable content course will take an interdisciplinary approach to emerging technologies and information management. May be repeated to a maximum of six hours when topic changes.
LIS 700 Foundations of Library and Information Science
This is course is an introduction to information studies, library science, and information technologies. It will address the various issues and technologies reflecting the changing nature of librarianship. In addition, the course provides an overview of planning, implementing, and evaluating informational programs for children and adults.
LIS 702 Organization of Information
Introduction to the theory and practice of information organization and retrieval in information environments. Familiarity with principles, standards, tools and current systems relating to organization of information and retrieval. Basic principles of cataloging and organizing library materials in the school library media center will be emphasized.
LIS 704 Administration and Leadership of Library Programs
This course focuses on the management of information centers in educational agencies. Emphasizes school library administration: program development, implementation, evaluation; planning cycle; budget process; services for diverse school constituencies. Effects of national, state, district guidelines, standards and policies on library media programs.
LIS 706 Collection Development for Libraries Serving Children and Youth
Principles of collection development and maintenance of both print and electronic resource collections for children and youth-centered libraries.
