The head lifeguard will serve in a leadership role among the lifeguard staff assisting with scheduling and supervising staff and managing events/programs. Prior experience as a lifeguard working on or off campus is required. Current lifeguard and CPR/first aid certifications are required. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.

Campus Recreation lifeguards provide a safe and pleasant aquatic atmosphere by safeguarding pool, spa and sauna users, enforcing facility rules, and acting as a resource to patrons. Lifeguards must maintain a reasonable degree of physical conditioning and be proficient at performing all rescues, demonstrated by passing a timed swim test and skills evaluation. Current lifeguard and CPR/first aid certifications are required.

The building manager position requires prior experience working in a leadership position on campus or in a fitness, recreation or wellness facility. Students working in a previous position within Campus Recreation are encouraged to apply. This leadership position will provide customer service and be responsible for opening and closing the Foster Recreation Center, supervising other student employees on shift and will be the first responder to accidents and/or incidents.

Welcome desk attendants are knowledgeable regarding all Campus Recreation programs and policies. The welcome desk attendants are present to ensure a safe/enjoyable experience, enforce admission policies and facility rules, register patrons for activities, memberships and programs, issue equipment, answer phones and questions, and provide customer service. Experience working with a register or handling money is preferred.

A student preventative maintenance attendant serves to maintain all fitness equipment within the Foster Recreation Center.  Preventative maintenance perform routine checkups and general up keep on fitness equipment within the facility, serve as a knowledgeable source on fitness equipment when needed, ensure the safety of Foster Recreation Center patrons by making sure all equipment is maintained and not degrading, and to serve as a reliable source for general maintenance.

Office attendants greet and assist all customers and provide information regarding Campus Recreation activities and the Missouri State campus. Office attendants are responsible for general office duties such as answering the phone, using office equipment, such as copier and fax, handling cash and credit card transactions, and assisting with special projects, assignments and the marketing and promotion of Campus Recreation. Experience with Word, Excel and money handling is preferred.

The public relations assistant’s primary responsibility is to serve as a liaison between Campus Recreation and the Missouri State University campus at large. Additionally, the public relations assistant is also tasked with assisting in marketing initiatives through social media management, presentations, and other tasks as assigned by the Graduate Assistant- Marketing.

BearFit instructors offer a variety of group fitness classes to a wide range of university participant fitness levels and interests. Classes offered each semester are dependent on instructor specialties and certifications, fitness trends and participant requests. Examples include Step, Indoor Cycling, Kickboxing, Hip Hop, Sports Conditioning and Aqua Fitness. Group fitness instruction experience is preferred. Group exercise instruction certification is required within 3 months of hire from a nationally accredited organization, i.e. AFAA, ACE, FiTOUR, any of which contain a practical training as part of the certification. 

The responsibility of a personal trainer with Campus Recreation is to provide a comprehensive one-on-one educational fitness program for our clients.  All trainers possess at least a bachelor's degree in a health/fitness-related field and/or national personal training certification. Trainers without either must acquire a personal training certification from a nationally accredited organization within three months of their hire date.  Acceptable certifications include ACE, ACSM, AFAA or NSCA & FiTOUR.

Building attendants provide support service to all Campus Recreation facilities and programs ensuring a safe, operational and aesthetically pleasing environment. Work includes, but is not limited to: the repair, maintenance and cleaning of all weight/fitness equipment, special event set up and tear down, maintaining cleanliness of the FRC during evening hours and special project assignments. Experience using hand tools is helpful, but training is provided.

Intramural sports attendants provide support to intramural supervisors and officials during game play. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting team players with registration, enforcing Campus Recreation policies and procedures regarding player eligibility, keeping game score, handing out promotional items and surveys and completing nightly paperwork.

Intramural sports officials run the daily activities of intramural sports: officiating and controlling the pace of the game, setting up competition area, and implementing policies and procedures of the intramural sports program. Experience officiating is not required, but an interest in each sport is preferred.

Intramural sports supervisor is a leadership position that requires previous experience as an intramural official. Supervisors oversee the daily activities of the intramural sports program, assist in training and evaluating sports officials, and promote a positive experience for all intramural participants and spectators.

OA resource center attendants provide service to walk-up and telephone customers at the outdoor recreation center. Tasks include renting equipment, cleaning and repairing equipment, assisting resource center users and answering questions.

Climbing wall attendants instruct and monitor climbing wall and bouldering activities as well as assist with administrative tasks and special events. Climbing wall attendants must demonstrate good customer service with all patrons and maintain a general knowledge of FRC climbing wall rules, regulations and policies. Willingness to certify in climbing techniques is required.

Outdoor adventures trip leaders plan, organize and lead various outdoor adventure trips, varying from day hikes to extended expeditions. Some trip experience and outdoor leadership experience is preferred. Preference is given to those applicants also interested in working as a climbing wall attendant or OA resource center attendant.
