Missouri State University’s office of publications has an opening for a graduate-level student writer.
Publications creates Missouri State alumni magazine, student recruitment pieces, fundraising pieces, advertisements, postcards, billboards and many other pieces to support MSU’s goals of engaging alumni, bolstering private support, recruiting students and telling the great stories of the University.
This graduate writer will contribute by interviewing alumni and students, writing profile stories, using marketing research and marketing best practices to craft recruitment pieces, and other tasks involved with producing engaging publications.
Starting pay is $10 per hour for 10- to 20-hours per week during business hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. M-F.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Writing profiles and feature stories for Missouri State alumni magazine
- Writing content for student recruitment pieces
- Highlighting the Missouri State experience through innovative text for print or online uses
Other duties might include:
- Taping and editing audio pieces
- Assisting the office in daily needs
- Posting to blogs
- Must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in communication, journalism, public relations, creative writing, technical writing or English
- Must be admitted to an MSU graduate program
- Must be available to work 10 to 20 hours per week during regular business hours (M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.)
- Must love being a Missouri State Bear and want to tell others about the University
- Strong, sharp command of the English language
- Genuine interest in people and their stories; ability to talk to different types of people
- Background in interviewing, writing and editing
- Ability to think about text in fresh, fun ways
- Great work ethic and great attitude
- Professional appearance
- Time-management skills; ability to stay organized while working on several concurrent projects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
