Alcohol Use Survey

Welcome to e-CHUG

What is e-CHUG?

e-CHUG is a short, confidential, on-line survey that provides you with a detailed assessment of your alcohol use. The purpose of this survey is to raise awareness of one’s alcohol use with a primary focus on reducing levels of harmful consequences. Each person will have different results based on their responses, creating a personal and unique assessment each and every time the survey is completed. e-CHUG is free with no limit on how many times the survey can be taken, allowing for students to track their alcohol use over a period of time.

What does it do?

When you access the e-CHUG, you are prompted to enter information about yourself. In addition to demographic information, it will ask you to enter information about your drinking habits, family history of alcohol use and perception of alcohol use by your peers. It will also ask you to complete the World Health Organization’s AUDIT. The AUDIT is a valid and reliable tool intended to help identify potential alcohol abuse problems.

After all the information has been entered, the e-CHUG calculates a number of variables and compares your response to assessment thresholds and national and local college norms. You are then provided with personalized feedback in an easy-to-read, printable format, with links to additional information to better understand your feedback and how your answers were interpreted.

How do I use e-CHUG?

To use e-CHUG, click on the link at the end of this page and log in. If you have not previously used the e-CHUG, select “Begin” at the log in prompt and you will be assigned an ID number. This ID number will be displayed on your final print out of your personalized feedback form. If you intend to use the e-CHUG to track your drinking habits over time, you will need to use this ID number to log back in as the system does not track user’s responses through any other mechanism. If tracking your responses over time is not important to you, then using your original ID to log in is not necessary; simply press begin.

What if I have been instructed to complete e-CHUG?

If you have been instructed to complete the e-CHUG, you must print off the Certificate of Completion on the “Making Changes” page and provide a copy of this to the individual/entity that instructed you to complete the program. Make sure to also print out your personalized feedback. Please understand that you will not be asked to provide an actual copy of your personalized feedback form to anyone. The feedback is yours to do with it as you wish once you have completed the e-CHUG program.
