GENERAL FUNCTION

The Radio Traffic Coordinator and Operations Assistant utilizes the Public Radio Satellite System software to capture desired programming from the satellite, routes the captured programming to air, hard drive, or recording device, documents the schedule and routing on the program log, and coordinates with the engineering and production staff to assure desired programming is aired as scheduled. The Radio Traffic Coordinator and Operations Assistant creates the master station schedule, inserts underwriting credits into the schedule, documents and verifies the announcement of NPR and local underwriting credits, and generates radio and television invoices for underwriting announcements. The Radio Traffic Coordinator and Operations Assistant schedules station identification announcements and EAS announcements to ensure compliance with FCC regulations, plans and schedules KSMU’s on-air rotations for campus and community public service announcements, public broadcasting image spots, radio and television program promotions to air on KSMU, and membership and major gifts announcements. The Radio Traffic Coordinator and Operations Assistant helps to develop and implement KSMU’s programming and operations strategy for KSMU’s analog service and digital multi-channel services and serves as fill-in and/or emergency announcer across KSMU’s programming services as needed.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A high school diploma plus specialized training beyond high school in computer related courses is required.

Experience: At least two years of general office experience is required, with an emphasis on using computer applications to store data, generate reports, and maintain a database. Experience as a traffic coordinator and with computerized scheduling of satellite delivered traffic is preferred.

Skills: An understanding of electronic file management and general computer operations is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. A working knowledge of SOSS, Content Depot, Visual Traffic, and Allegience software is preferred. Announcing skills are preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists KSMU Radio Station announcers in presenting scheduled programming by providing operations personnel with a complete and accurate daily program log which indicates program start times, program titles and routing, underwriting announcements, and all other local announcements.

2. Ensures that scheduled programming is available for airing by screening available programming from public radio, coordinating with station staff to determine which programs need to be captured for airing on KSMU, configuring satellite receivers to capture the required programming schedule, specifying the routing of captured programs to air or recording device, and arranging for alternate feed if program capture fails.

3. Ensures that local broadcast of NPR program credits and local underwriting credits are run as scheduled and documented for audit and billing purposes by creating the master station schedule including local availabilities, updating the master station schedule for specific days and dayparts, generating underwriting invoices and tracking payments, and confirming the broadcast dates and times for Ozarks Public Television local underwriting announcements and generating invoices and tracking payments.

4. Contributes to the success of KSMU’s membership program by scheduling and writing day sponsor messages for broadcast on KSMU.

5. Creates a positive image for the station by responding to listener requests regarding program material from both local and national sources.

6. Works with station management to track expenses for programming aired on KSMU from NPR, PRI, APM, and independent programming sources and facilitates the ordering and payment of station operations expenses in consultation with KSMU’s engineering department and station management.

7. Serves as voice talent, announcer, and master control operator as needed on KSMU’s analog and digital services and operates digital editing software and automation systems as needed.

8. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

9. Remains competent and current by attending training and/or courses as directed by the General Manager-KSMU and Ozarks Public Television.

10. Contributes to the overall success of KSMU radio station by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The Radio Traffic Coordinator and Operations Assistant is supervised by the General Manager-KSMU and Ozarks Public Television and supervises student employees.
