OER Course Proposal Expectation

Expectations:

Faculty will attend an orientation workshop facilitated by the FCTL and Meyer Library. Faculty will adopt OER’s or free content eliminating student costs for a textbook. Faculty will work with the Library locating intellectual repositories and FCTL Instructional Designers on designing their course around open resources. Working with these support services, faculty must ensure copyright compliance, accessibility of resources, etc.

Faculty will be expected to share the outcomes of their OER project at the annual Showcase on Teaching and Learning. They must also openly license any resources they have created or adapted with Creative Commons and be willing to share them with other MSU faculty through the institutional repository BearWorks and/or other open education repositories. Faculty must submit a brief final report to the FCTL and Meyer Library that details some of the successes and challenges of their OER project. A one-page template will be provided for this report.

Review Process and Evaluation Criteria:

Proposals will be reviewed by faculty members of the FCTL Advisory Council and OER experts in Meyer Library’s Research and Instructional Services. Proposals will be evaluated on:

  • Proposal narrative including cost savings for students and plan for creating or adopting open educational resources.
  • Sustainability or the likelihood of resources being used for more than one semester or in multiple sections/courses.
  • Assessment plan including the evaluation of intended outcomes for using open educational resources.
