James Anderson, the former president of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, recently began a new position as vice president for marketing and public affairs at CoxHealth in Springfield, Missouri. During his time with the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber was recognized as the Chamber of the Year by its national professional organization in 2012.
Before joining the Springfield Chamber, he spent nine years as president of the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce. Prior to that, he served as a school administrator and school teacher in the Jefferson City Public Schools.
Anderson has served on numerous state and national committees over his career. During his involvement with the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, he has served as its chairman from 1994 to 1995 and received the Chairman’s Professional Leadership Award in 1992. He has also served as member of the board of trustees of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management.
At the state level, Anderson served as president of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Missouri and received their Top Level Award in 1989. He also served as a member, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, member and Chair of the Missouri Department of Transportation and Highway Patrol Employee’s Retirement System, member of the Missouri Business Council and member of the Total Transportation Commission.
At the local level. Anderson has served as chairman of the United Way of the Ozarks and president of the Urban District Alliance. He is a member of the Springfield Rotary Club, past chairman of the Community Relations Board for the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, and past chairman of the Board of Directors of Springfield Innovation, Inc. at the Roy Blunt Jordan Valley Innovation Center.
Honors and awards
He has received numerous honors and awards for his positive efforts to affect his community, including the Springfieldian Award and Missourian Award in 2005, the Lifetime Achievement in Business Award from the Springfield Business Journal in 2007 and the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of America Ozark Trails Council.
Anderson also received the Career Service in Economic Development Award at the Governor’s Conference on Economics Development, the Ozarks Technical Community College Excellence in Business Award and the Springfield Business Journal Top Local Executive Award.
Mr. Anderson is a 1971 graduate of Missouri State University. He and his wife Janet are the proud parents of Rachel and Rebecca.
