CHPA Heads’ Meeting Minutes

August 26, 2013

Sept 17 Census Date: turn in PAFs for faculty teaching on-line classes

Sept 26 Majors Fair, PSU Ballroom, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Sept 27 Deadline for Faculty to submit proposal for 2013 Fall Faculty Research Grants

Sept 30 Faculty submit Tenure and/or Promotion dossier to Department Heads and
External Reviews due to Department Heads for inclusion in the dossier

Items for Discussion:

Progress with hiring process: the Department Heads provided a brief update of their current searches. All are either posted or about to be posted.

Heads were reminded about inviting guests to September 28th football game.

Review of Departmental Promotion/Tenure documents (CRM, HST, SOC/ANT) – orientation at 3:30, Sept 9, Lib 101

PSIP applications: the Provost’s office plans to release the application process and procedures shortly and Heads were asked to mentor their eligible faculty.

Wi-Fi for Staff: Laurie Wilson is polling staff members in CHPA and for those who wish to obtain access to Wi-Fi the Dean’s office will fund the costs.

Indicators of Success and Failure in CHPA courses: a general discussion took place about intervention methods to alert students about failing grades. George Connor mentioned an effort in PLS to send mid-term D and F grades to Susan Smith so she can contact majors who are her advisees.

Heads were reminded about the CHPA Scholarship Banquet on October 15 and asked to personally contact donors to invite them to attend.

Heads were asked to check for any conflicts that would interfere with staging the CHPA Student Research Forum on Friday, October 25.

Patti Salinas brought up a Banner feature that allows for the creation of wait-lists for full courses. There was general agreement that should is something the college should support and she and Kathleen Kennedy will produce a written request that can be sent to Don Simpson and the Registrar’s office.
