Family Weekend 2018 Tentative Schedule of Events

We are excited to see you on campus for Family Weekend 2018,  September 28-30th. There are many activities planned, with more being posted weekly. Tickets for Family Weekend activities will go on sale in early July. There is a cost associated with some events.

Registration for Family Weekend will open on July 2nd.


Friday, September 28

Check–In and Information

4 – 7 p.m.
Plaster Student Union, N.E. Lounge (across from the Info Desk)

Pick up your tickets for weekend events and have your first Family Weekend photo taken at our Social Media Photo Center.

Social Media Photo Booth

4 - 7 p.m.
Plaster Student Union, N.E. Lounge (across from the Info Desk)

Start out the weekend by getting your first picture in front of the Bear Statue. The picture will be printed out for you immediately. Use the hashtag #MSUFW18 when you take a photo on Instagram and your photo will be sent to the printer. There will also be volunteers available to take your photo.

BearWear @ the Bookstore

7:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Missouri State Bookstore

Get ready for “BearWear Friday” –a longstanding Missouri State tradition—by heading to the Bookstore for your MSU merchandise! Then, take a picture of you and your family in your BearWear for a chance to be featured on the MSU website!

Enjoy food from Chick Fil-A, Panda Express, Red Mango, Subway, Papa John’s Pizza, and more, when you experience the campus “hotspot.”

Get active and enjoy a workout (or a swim) with your student at Foster Recreation Center! Families will have the opportunity to use the FRC to workout with their students. A signed waiver of consent is needed to use the facility. Family members can fill out the waiver form at the front desk of the center.

Student Showcase & Dinner

Join us for a fun filled night of entertainment and dinner. Enjoying the talents of our student organizations as they entertain with a wide variety of acts, visiting with other families and getting to know MSU staff are just a few of the highlights of the evening. Tickets are required.

Level 1 Game Center - Plaster Student Union
Join the Student Activities Council for bowling, ping pong and pool in the Level 1 Game Center. Challenge other families to a friendly competition.

Get ready to tee off as you participate in the annual Family Weekend Golf Scramble sponsored by Foster Recreation Center. Create your own 2-person team, and sign up for $57.00 (including cart and tax), $30.00 for individual (includes cart and tax). Your registration will include 9 holes and a golf cart for you and your partner to get around the course. Tickets are required.

The Absent Professor Program presents: Seven Habits of a Successful College Student

Join Michael Frizell, Director of the Bear Claw, for an entertaining and informative look at what makes a successful college student. Michael will wow you with his personality and knowledge and offer resources available to your student as they learn more about Missouri State.

Bear Family Tailgate - Come & Go Event

BearFest Village (exact tent location to be announced soon)

Join the Traditions Council and Parent & Family Programs in making memories and indulge in a day of fun with your entire family during one of MSU’s most exciting traditions, the Family Tailgate in BearFest Village. Join us in the Traditions Council tent (location to be determined) for lunch and giveaways. While in BearFest Village, take a picture with Boomer, enjoy a Pride Band performance, and get in the Bear spirit as you take part in the Bear Walk, the time when the football team heads to the field! BearFest Village, the area where on-campus tailgating takes place, is located between Glass Hall and Carrington Hall. Families are encouraged to bring chairs. Coolers are allowed. Tickets are required!

MSU Football Game vs Illinois State

Show your Bear pride as you cheer the team on as they take on Illinois State! Also, get ready for a whirlwind of surprises and activities for you and your family throughout the game. Go Bears! Football Tickets will be mailed.

The Inclusive Excellence Leadership Scholars and Awardees Family Reception

The Inclusive Excellence Leadership Scholars Family Reception is an opportunity for family members of current scholars to meet with Multicultural Services and discuss current programming for the scholarship. Family members will have a chance to learn about upcoming initiatives as well as ways to get involved, such as the Parent & Family Programs Council. Refreshments will be served. Free but RSVP requested.

Enjoy a sparkling brunch in either of our two main dining centers as you get ready to bid farewell to your student. Parents eat free with a student. Additional guests are $6.75 each, payable at the door.

Explore Springfield

Get your outdoor supplies at the 300,000 square-foot Bass Pro Shop including the Wonders of Wildlife, experience history first-hand as you go on the “Battle of Springfield Driving Tour,” or experience the “home of the throwed rolls” in the Ozarks. Finish up the weekend by taking some time to explore the Springfield community with your student. Get more information.
