Family Weekend 2019 Tentative Schedule of Events

We are excited to see you on campus for Family Weekend 2019,  September 20th-22nd. There are many activities planned, with more being posted weekly.  There is a cost associated with some events.

Check–In and Information

4 – 7 p.m.
Plaster Student Union

Pick up your tickets for weekend events and have your first Family Weekend photo taken at our Social Media Photo Center.

Start out the weekend by getting your first picture in front of the Bear Statue. The picture will be printed out for you immediately. Use the hashtag #MSUFW19 when you take a photo on Instagram and your photo will be sent to the printer. There will also be volunteers available to take your photo.

BearWear @ the Bookstore

7:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Missouri State Bookstore

Get ready for “BearWear Friday” –a longstanding Missouri State tradition—by heading to the Bookstore for your MSU merchandise! Then, take a picture of you and your family in your BearWear for a chance to be featured on the MSU website! A 20% discount will be offered to all family members on BearWear, souvenirs and Clinique.

Get active and enjoy a workout (or a swim) with your student at Foster Recreation Center! Families will have the opportunity to use the FRC to workout with their students. A signed waiver of consent is needed to use the facility. Family members can fill out the waiver form at the front desk of the center.

University Safety Expo

6pm - 7pm
Magers Health and Wellness

Join the Office of University Safety to learn more about student safety and prevention techniques on Friday, September 20th, 6pm, Magers Healthy and Wellness Center. Staff from the Office of University Safety and the Springfield Police Department will share important information and provide a glimpse into safety at Missouri State students. Free event.

Join us for a fun filled night of entertainment and dinner. Enjoying the talents of our student organizations as they entertain with a wide variety of acts, visiting with other families and getting to know MSU staff are just a few of the highlights of the evening. Tickets are required.

Join the Student Activities Council for bowling, ping pong and pool in the Level 1 Game Center. Challenge other families to a friendly competition.

22nd annual Cider Days

This two-day fall festival will feature regional artists and crafters, three performance stages, fall-themed activities for kids, and, of course, delicious apple cider! Artists and crafters from across the region exhibit at Cider Days, selling a variety of handmade products including jewelry, pottery, glass, wood, furniture and much more. Come experience the first days of fall among the historic Victorian homes on picturesque, tree-lined Historic Walnut Street! Cider Days is presented by the Historic Walnut Street Association and managed by the Downtown Springfield Association. (The Missouri State Family Association is not a host of this event, we are publicizing the event.)

The 5th Annual MO Food Truck Fest!

Food trucks and foodies will gather this September in Springfield, Missouri for the KOLR10 and Ozarks LIVE 5th Annual Missouri Food Truck Festival & Competition. This is a one day event featuring the best gourmet food trucks, carts and trailers from around the state of Missouri and beyond. Featuring the brightest and most inspired street chefs bringing everything from gourmet hot dogs, sandwiches, Creole, BBQ, Mexican & TexMex, American, Italian, American, Asian, Latin, Mediterranean, and sweets, plus live entertainment, and vendors galore. Get to know #ClubMeyer during Family Extravaganza @ Your Library! Enjoy refreshments and games on the front lawn, make your own souvenir button, tour the library and the Jane A. Meyer Carillon tower, and try your hand at Virtual and Augmented Reality with interactive demos. Free admission.

Bear Family Tailgate - Come & Go Event

Join the fun of BearFest Village at the Bear Family Tailgate! Hang out with family and friends, enjoy performances by the Pride Band and cheer on our Missouri State Football team as they make their way to the field. Food is served. Coolers are welcome. Suggestion: Bring chairs because the tent will be crowded. Tickets are required, limited number of tickets available.

Safety Demonstrations sponsored by the Office of University Safety

Join the Office of University Safety at the Bear Family Tailgate as they spotlight CPR Training, fire extinguisher training, durable bike locks and campus security cameras (see if you can find #FlatBoomer). Enjoy this interactive presentation before you head to the football game. Free event.

MSU Football Game vs. Kennesaw State

Show your Bear pride as you cheer the team on as they take the field against Kennesaw State! Also, get ready for a whirlwind of surprises and activities for you and your family throughout the game. Go Bears! Tickets required! Football tickets will be mailed.

Carnaval: Latinx Heritage Month Banquet 2019

5 p.m.- 7 p.m.
Plaster Student Union Grand Ballroom

The Latinx Heritage Month Banquet, formally known as the "Latino Banquet," is part of the university's celebration of Latinx Heritage Month. The banquet will include cultural performances, a fashion show, as well as authentic Latin American food, prepared by students, university and Springfield community members. The banquet is planned by the Office of Multicultural Programs in collaboration with students representing Latinx student organizations on campus, staff and faculty. Guests will have to individually RSVP for the banquet, we cannot accommodate group RSVPs. As a reminder, there are only 300 seats for the banquet. Missouri State University Staff, Faculty, and Springfield Community Members will be charged a $10.00 CASH admission fee at the door. Non-Missouri State and Non-Springfield Community Members will be charged a $10.00 CASH admission fee at the door. The RSVP link will become available in August 2019. RSVP is required.

Get your outdoor supplies at the 300,000 square-foot Bass Pro Shop including the Wonders of Wildlife, experience history first-hand as you go on the “Battle of Springfield Driving Tour,” or experience the “home of the throwed rolls” in the Ozarks.
