Concert Band Camp

Tuesday, June 26-Friday, June 29 - Registration Deadline is June 15!

- For students grades 6-12, concentrating on band music in the concert setting.  Students will work in sections as well as rehearse with full band throughout the camp!

Cost: $340 per student 

Cost includes: room (2 students per), meals, all activities, camp / performance shirt

Leadership Camp

Wednesday, June 27-Friday, June 29 - Registration Deadline is June 15!

- For drum majors, section leaders and color guard captains, with classes in leadership, conducting patterns, team-building, and more!

Cost: $290 per student

Cost includes: room (2 students per), meals, all activities, camp / performance shirt

Color Guard / Winter Guard Camp

Wednesday, June 27-Friday, June 29 - Registration Deadline is June 15!

- For color guard / winter guard students grades 7-12, with classes in equipment (flag, rifle, sabre), movement, marching basics, and performance!  This camp is designed for individuals or complete color guard teams.

Cost: $290 per student

Cost includes: room (2 students per), meals, all activities, camp / performance shirt

Director's Workshop with Marie Grana Czapinski

Thursday, June 28 (for one day only!)

- For Band Directors and Color Guard Instructors.  Marie is an expert in all areas of pageantry arts with years of experience in presenting educational seminars to Band Directors, Designers and Adjudicators.  She has the knowledge to conduct a meaningful, impactful and inspirational education experience for all attendees!  

Cost: $60 per person (If you send 10 students to Bands Alive this summer, you may attend this clinic for free!! To register for the workshop with your fee waived, please email us)

Cost includes: full day session (9am-4pm), lunch, all workshop activities, meet & greet with Marie (4pm), camp shirt

Director's Workshop with Dr. Peter Boonshaft

Tuesday, June 26 (for one day only!)

- Dr. Boonshaft will present two sessions that morning.  The first one is "Teaching Music with Purpose: 25 Things You Can Do Tomorrow To Improve Your Ensemble." The second is titled "Warm-up and Ensemble Development Exercises that Work!"  An afternoon session, "Hands-On Repair Clinic" will be presented by Paul Schmidt, Instrument Repair Technician at Springfield Music Company.

Camp FAQs

What are the benefits of summer camp?

Summer band camps provide instruction, rehearsal and performance experiences that will enhance student growth as a musician, leader and role model in their own school program.  Additionally, campers will enjoy making friends from other schools, as well as have the opportunity to work with some fantastic MSU Band faculty and students!  Evening activities are geared toward recreation and fun.

What age level are the camps designed for?

Band Camp is for students grades 6-12 and focuses on music in the concert setting.

Leadership Camp is for students grades 9-12.

Color Guard / Winter Guard Camp is for students grades 7-12.

Where do campers stay?

All campers are housed in University Residence Halls. Camp counselors are on duty at all times.

Where do campers eat?

All meals are served in one of the University's Dining Halls.

Who teaches at the camp?

Camp staff is comprised of MSU Band Faculty and Staff, leaders from the Pride Band Program, marching techs with extensive drum corps experience, and highly respected music educators from throughout the Midwest.
