The purpose of the Diversity Committee is to ensure that all individuals—but particularly
BIPOC, LGTBQ, and international faculty, staff, and students—feel welcome, safe, respected,
represented, and valued in and by the department.

Fulfilling our charge
In fulfilling our purpose, the committee engages in actions including, but not limited
to:
Gauging the department’s overall climate regarding diversity
Proposing and coordinating new diversity and inclusion strategies and initiatives
Coordinating with other department committees to ensure events, recruitment, marketing,
curriculum, etc., are as inclusive as possible
Supporting the efforts of the RCOAL Diversity Council, the Division for Diversity,
Equity and Inclusion, Multicultural Services, and other similar campus units
Assessing the impact of the department’s diversity and inclusion efforts
