Become an Eco-Rep

Missouri State University Eco-Reps

This is a face-to-face education program, where students engage with their peers on sustainability issues. Eco-Reps also help plan and implement student-focused outreach activities for campus-wide events, such as RecycleMania and Campus Conservation Nationals. Involvement in this program counts as service hours for scholarships, student organizations and Greek organizations.

You should become an Eco-Rep if you are:

  • Passionate about sustainability
  • Looking for a way to raise awareness about these issues
  • Ready to encourage other students to care about sustainability
  • Interested in learning how to foster positive behavior change

The main goals of the Eco-Rep program are to provide sustainability education to students, increase involvement and encourage behavior change.

Eco-Reps 2015

Specifically, Eco-Reps will:

  • Make all students familiar with the concept of sustainability and its importance
  • Educate students about how to live more sustainable lifestyles at Missouri State and in the Springfield community
  • Motivate students to get involved and give them the resources to do so
  • Help students find ways to get involved in sustainability on campus

Program Information

All Eco-Reps receive an initial training that provides them with the skills they need to effectively and confidently engage with students. Eco-Reps also receive training for each topic they cover, including recycling, energy conservation, sustainable transportation and more…

The Sustainability Coordinator supports the Eco-Reps by coordinating all necessary trainings and providing the educational materials (e.g. brochures) needed to effectively engage with students.

Eco-Reps are expected to participate in at least two hours of outreach activities each month. This could include planning and implementation of events or direct engagement with students.
