Communication Studies (Non-Comprehensive)

Bachelor of Arts

Major requirements (33 hours):

Students pursuing a Communication Studies major must complete a minimum of nine hours not counted as requirements on any other major in the Department of Communication.

Note: three hours may double count in General Education requirements.

  1. Specific General Education requirement: COM 115(3).
  2. Department requirements (9 hours): COM 209(3), 210(3), 350(3).
  3. Communication practices core (12 hours): COM 205(3), 315(3); 322(3) or 328(3); 325(3) or 326(3). (Courses may not be used to satisfy both the Communication Practices Core and Communication Studies requirements.)
  4. Communication Studies requirements (12 additional hours) from: COM 206(3), 260(3), 307(3), 309(3), 311(3); 322(3) or 328(3); 325(3) or 326(3); 332(3), 336(3), 338(3), 360(3), 379(3), 397(3)*, 405(3), 495(3), 506(3), 511(3), 521(3), 550(3), 552(3), 566(3), 597(3)*.
  5. Public Affairs Capstone Experience: COM 350(3) or COM 322(3) or COM 495(3).
  6. Minor required (or second major).
  7. Specific Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements

    * With advisor approval, no more than three total hours of COM 397 or 597 may be counted toward the 33 hours required.

Accelerated graduate program in Communication

Eligible Missouri State undergraduate students may apply for admission to the Communication program and begin taking graduate course work as they complete the work for a bachelor’s degree. A maximum of 12 hours of graduate credit may be counted toward both the undergraduate and graduate degree (Mixed Credit). Refer to the Graduate Catalog for specific admission requirements.

Accelerated graduate program in Professional Studies

Eligible Missouri State undergraduate students may apply for admission to the Master of Professional Studies program and begin taking graduate course work as they complete the work for a bachelor’s degree. A maximum of 12 hours of graduate credit may be counted toward both the undergraduate and graduate degree (Mixed Credit). Refer to the Graduate Catalog for specific admission requirements.
