Admission Requirements

  1. Attainment of at least a 3.00 GPA (based on a 4.00 scale). For students with transfer credit, a combined GPA of at least a 3.00 must be achieved for all transfer coursework plus all coursework attempted at Missouri State.
  2. Completion of at least 50 semester hours including the following General Education courses with grades of "C" or better. Select from the courses below to be eligible for consideration for admission to the major. Students pursuing the accelerated Doctor of Audiology degree have different requirements than other students. Contact your advisor to determine eligibility to pursue the accelerated Doctor of Audiology degree. Course options were selected to fulfill Knowledge and Skills in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD). Contact your advisor to determine any available course substitutions.
    1. Chemistry and/or Physics*
      1. Students pursuing the accelerated Doctor of Audiology degree must complete a chemistry course and a physics course selected from CHM 116(4) and 117(1) or CHM 160(4) and 161(1); and PHY 100(4) or PHY 123(4) or PHY 203(5).
      2. All other students select one course from CHM 107(3), CHM 116(4), CHM 160(4), PHY 100(4), PHY 123(4), PHY 203(5). Higher level CHM or PHY courses may be considered.
    2. Biology*
      1. Students pursuing the accelerated Doctor of Audiology degree must complete BIO 121(4) or BMS 110(3) and 111(1).
      2. All other students select one course from BIO 101(3), BIO 121(4), or BMS 100(3) and 101(1) or BMS 110(3) and 111(1). Higher level BIO courses may be considered.
    3. College level mathematics course: MTH 136, 138, 261, or 287. Higher level MTH courses may be considered.

      *For students pursuing the accelerated Doctor of Audiology degree, at least two of the three required science courses must include a laboratory component. For all other students, at least one of the science courses must include a laboratory component.

Major requirements (49-52)

Within the General Education Knowledge of the Natural World requirement, students pursing the accelerated Doctor of Audiology degree must complete a biology course, a chemistry course, and a physics course as described in the Admission section. Two of the three courses must include a laboratory component.

All other students must complete a biology course and a chemistry or physics course as described in the Admission section. One of the courses must include a laboratory component.

This major does not require completion of a minor. Students should consult with their advisor to determine which program option is best for them.

Major core (43 hours):
  1. CSD 210(3), 312(3), 315(3), 318(3), 319(3), 360(3), 370(3), 388(3), 400(3); 495(2), 496(2), 522(3), 572(3); ENG 296(3) or CSD 209(3); PSY 121(3).
  2. One of the following: AGR 330(3), MTH 340(3), IPE 381(3), QBA 237(3), PSY 200(3), REC 328(3), SOC 220(3).
  3. Public Affairs Capstone Experience will be fulfilled by completion of CSD 572(3).
Complete one the following options:
Audiology option (6 hours):
  1. CSD 321(3) or 330(2); 351(3).
  2. For students pursuing the accelerated Doctor of Audiology degree, CSD 496(2) will be repeated for a total of 4 hours. Additionally, the core requirements of ENG 296 or CSD 209(3) and CSD 318 will be waived; CSD 807(3), 849(3), 852(3), and 878(3) will be taken as mixed credit; and CSD 868(3) and 895(1) will be taken as senior permission. Students wishing to pursue the accelerated Doctor of Audiology degree must apply to the program in the spring of the junior year.
Speech-Language Pathology option (9 hours):
  1. CSD 316(3), 417(3), 482(3)
GPA and grade requirements:
  1. All students must attain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 in the CSD major to graduate from the program.
  2. CSD courses cannot be taken on a Pass/Not basis.
  3. Courses in the major cannot be taken more than twice.

Accelerated graduate program in Audiology

Eligible Missouri State undergraduate students may apply for admission to the Doctor of Audiology program and begin taking graduate course work as they complete the work for a bachelor’s degree. A maximum of 12 hours of graduate credit may be counted toward both the undergraduate and graduate degree (Mixed Credit). Refer to the Graduate Catalog for specific admission requirements.
