SPN 735 Advanced Spanish Proficiency

Prior learning assessment protocol

Students take an official ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and official ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test (WPT).

Eligibility requirements

Students must be graduate students enrolled in the MASLA degree or who wish to receive credit as nondegree-seeking students in order to meet dual-credit instructor requirements.

Assessment administration details

These are telephonic and online tests, which may be taken from home at any time. Students arrange the date and time. The tests are proctored using a remote proctoring protocol. The results must be sent to the department.

Fee

Students pay an assessment administration fee of $100 when they register online via the departmental storefront. Additionally, students must cover all costs associated with the OPI and WPT (registration and proctoring).

Score requirements

In order to obtain credit for prior learning, students must attain ratings of at least Advanced Low on both assessments.

Retake policy

Students may only attempt each assessment once.

Credits awarded

After reporting their scores to the department, students must request an Institutional Examination Report Form from the department and submit it to the Office of the Registrar. Students may earn between three  and 12 credits, depending on their ratings on both assessments. Only three hours of SPN 735 may count toward MASLA requirements.
