GENERAL FUNCTION

The Web Programmer/Analyst creates, maintains, and documents programmed computer applications, primarily Web-related applications, that serve the administrative and academic departments of the University, participates in the systems design process, and accepts assigned responsibility for projects, which may include maintenance, major modifications, or development of new systems.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of college courses that are equivalent to an Associate's degree are required. A Bachelor's degree and an emphasis in a computer-related courses are preferred.

Experience: Experience in the design and programming of computer applications using HTML, Java, C, C++, Visual Basic, or other web tools is preferred. Experience in business application programming is preferred. Experience with RDBMS and SQL is preferred. Experience with TCP/IP and computer graphics is preferred. Experience in programming computer applications in a team-oriented environment is preferred. Work experience in higher education is preferred.

Skills: Proficiency in the design and coding of general business applications is required. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. The ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to information processed, stored, or accessed by the systems is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Proficiency in the design and coding of Web-related applications is preferred. Proficiency in the development of relational database queries, the design and coding of command-level CICS, the writing of narratives and DOS/VSE job control, and the creation and maintenance of VSAM files is preferred.

Effort: Extended periods of time working at a microcomputer workstation are required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Complies with requests for programming services, primarily web-related, by formulating, in conjunction with the requesting user and Systems Analyst, a general plan for the request.

2. Supports the design, development, testing, and maintenance of the University’s computer applications by developing web-related solutions and interfaces with the University’s systems and data.

3. Participates with the Web Systems Analyst in the evaluation and recommendation of software and hardware used in various aspects of web application development.

4. Promotes the development of Programmer/Analysts by offering assistance in web-related coding techniques and testing methods as appropriate and by participating in training programs.

5. Effectively resolves programming problems, particularly web-related problems, by conducting thorough analyses of problems and employing appropriate debugging techniques and aids to resolve the problems.

6. Promotes the uniformity of the programming effort by contributing to and adhering to the Computer Services Department’s Standards and Guidelines manual.

7. Contributes to the overall success of the database management system by participating in the development of queries and providing support to users of the system.

8. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing and maintaining professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Senior Systems Analyst.

9. Contributes to the overall success of the Computer Services Department by performing all other essential duties as assigned by the Senior Systems Analyst.

SUPERVISION

The Web Programmer/Analyst is supervised by the Senior Systems Analyst or the Web Systems Analyst. The Web Programmer/Analyst does not supervise others.
