GENERAL FUNCTION

The Assistant General Manager, KSMU and Ozarks Public Television helps to develop and implement an annual strategic plan that assists KSMU and Ozarks Public Television (OPT) in achieving their annual programming, engineering, marketing, fundraising, and community service goals. In conjunction with the General Manager, KSMU and Ozarks Public Television, the Assistant General Manager, KSMU and Ozarks Public Television oversees and directs daily operations of all departments and develops and monitors budgets and monthly revenue and expenses as well as approving budget expenditures for all departments. The Assistant General Manager is responsible for compliance and reporting to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). The Assistant General Manager, KSMU and Ozarks Public Television prepares requests for funding from governmental, private, and corporate foundations and develops and oversees the implementation of projects throughout the station. The Assistant General Manager, KSMU and Ozarks Public Television assists in building and maintaining relationships with National Public Radio (NPR), Public Broadcasting Services (PBS), the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), and donors and negotiates programming issues and pricing with national program distribution representatives.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in Communication, Media, or a related field is required.

Experience: Three years of experience with marketing or development activities in public broadcasting is required. Familiarity with FCC rules and regulations is required.

Skills: Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required. Computer literacy, particularly in the use of word processing is required. Familiarity with specialized public broadcasting software such as Allegiance is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Other: A valid Missouri driver’s license is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Oversees and directs daily operations in all areas of KSMU and OPT, in conjunction with the General Manager, KSMU and OPT.

2. Develops the annual budget, monitors revenues and expenditures, and approves budget expenditures for all areas of KSMU and OPT, in conjunction with the General Manager, KSMU and OPT.

3. Assures compliance with federal rules and regulations and prepares required reports for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).

4. Prepares requests for funding from governmental, private, and corporate foundations.

5. Develops, implements, and oversees projects throughout all station departments.

6. Negotiates programming and pricing issues with national programming distribution representatives, communicates with legal counsel regarding compliance and other issues, and meets with potential donors to secure funding.

7. Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

8. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the General Manager, KSMU and Ozarks Public Television.

9. Contributes to the overall success of KSMU and OPT by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The Assistant General Manager, KSMU and Ozarks Public Television is supervised by the General Manager, KSMU and Ozarks Public Television and supervises full-time professional and administrative support employees, graduate students, and student employees.
