GENERAL FUNCTION

The Instructor is a member of the ranked faculty whose duties require effectiveness in teaching, a commitment to staying current with their discipline and appropriate pedagogies, and a willingness to serve the academic unit, college and/or University. The Instructor's teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. Effective January 1 2007, the Instructor rank is a tenure-track appointment only for faculty appointed by the two-year open admissions campus at West Plains and the Greenwood Laboratory School.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Instructor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Instructor are assigned by the academic department head. The Instructor facilitates a learning environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

SUPERVISION

The Instructor receives administrative supervision from the department head and may exercise supervision of graduate assistants, undergraduate majors, or student employees.
