Projects and events

Service-learning projects and competitions will enhance your learning, providing opportunities to build relationships with students, faculty and the community.

Students volunteering at the Discover Engineering competition

Discover Engineering

An annual event that introduces elementary school children to engineering and science

Students volunteering at the MathCounts competition

MathCounts Competition

An engaging, MSPE-organized math contest for middle school kids

Test bridge competition

Bridge Testing

A hands-on learning experience that allows high school students to build and test their own balsa wood bridges

Professional organizations

Engineering students are encouraged to join professional societies and attend the meetings.  The professional society meetings give students an opportunity to network with local professional engineers, which often leads to students being offered intern positions while in college and full-time positions after graduation.  All engineering students are encouraged to join the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE).  There is a student chapter that is closely aligned with the Ozarks Chapter of MSPE.

Electrical engineering students are encouraged to join the IEEE organization.  There is a student chapter that is closely aligned with the Southwest Missouri Section of IEEE.

Civil engineering students are encouraged to participate with the Ozarks Chapter Institute of Transportation Engineers (OCITE) and to the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE

Student design teams

Electrical engineering students participating in the electric go-cart contest

Civil engineers participate in the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge contests.  Electrical engineers participate in an electric go-cart contest.
