University Hiring Freeze

Posted 5 p.m. March 25

Effective immediately, there will be a University-wide hiring freeze for all academic and non-academic positions. No exceptions may be made unless approved by the President (for non-academic positions) or the Provost (for academic positions).

Any exception must be authorized in writing and made prior to any hires or offers of employment. Documented exceptions must be emailed to the Interim Director of Human Resources ( and the Director Office of Institutional Equity & Compliance ( prior to the extension of any offers or employment.

The hiring freeze will remain in effect through June 30, 2020. This timeframe may be extended if needed.

An open position may, however, be filled by transferring an existing employee within the cost center into the open position. In such circumstances, a formal search consistent with Op7.10 Recruiting a Diverse Workforce: Guidelines for Hiring Faculty, Academic Administrators and Executive, Administrative and Professional Staff is not required. Such hires must, however, still be routed through the Applicant Tracking System (“ATS”) for internal tracking purposes.
