The following email was sent from the president's office to Missouri State students on August 10, 2021.
Subject: Important information about fall COVID‑19 protocols
The semester is about to begin and I’m excited to have you back on campus.
This fall will be very close to “normal.”
We will have the usual Welcome Week events, student activities, Bears athletics and tailgating at BearFest Village. All campus services and recreational facilities will be open.
Classes will be held in the format you signed up for – seated, online or hybrid.
One new change: We will start the year with a temporary mask requirement in all indoor campus spaces.
We hoped that we wouldn’t need to require masks this fall, but unfortunately that isn’t going to be possible.
Research indicates that the Delta variant of COVID‑19 is more contagious. Based on this research, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its mask recommendations.
The CDC now recommends that everyone — unvaccinated and fully vaccinated people — wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of high transmission of COVID‑19.
Our city, state and most of the country are currently in areas of high transmission.
Masks will be required in all buildings
Beginning Aug. 22, masks will be required in all buildings on campus.
Like many of you, I don’t like wearing a mask, and this mask policy won’t last forever. We will start the fall semester with a temporary policy requiring masks indoors throughout campus.
We will reevaluate the policy every 30 days and will end the policy as soon as it’s safe to do so.
We will remain engaged with healthcare and public health leaders, state and local government officials, and our higher education peers as we navigate Missouri State’s response to the pandemic.
Vaccinations will be easily available
The quickest way for us to get totally back to normal is to get as many members of our campus community vaccinated as possible.
COVID‑19 vaccinations are available by appointment at Magers Health and Wellness Center.
Students can sign up for COVID‑19 vaccinations at Magers through the MyHealth Portal.
Student can win prizes by getting vaccinated
Missouri State students can win prizes – including free tuition, housing, meal plans, computers and more – by getting vaccinated against COVID‑19.
One student will win a package including free tuition, housing, meals, books, supplies and a designated parking spot for an academic year.
Learn more about the Student Vaccination Incentive Program.
We’ll continue other safety measures
This fall we will continue to have symptomatic and asymptomatic COVID‑19 testing widely available on campus.
All residence hall students will meet specific COVID move-in requirements, we will perform weekly wastewater testing, and we’ll provide isolation and quarantine housing for students living on campus.
Keep up to date
The COVID‑19 Information Center will continue to provide the latest COVID‑19 information at the university.
Our COVID‑19 Response Team will continue to perform contact tracing and serve as a resource to answer COVID related questions for members of the campus community.
Enjoy the last few weeks before classes start, and we’ll see you soon.
