Missouri State Alert to Campus Community (March 13)

The following Missouri State Alert was sent to the Missouri State community on March 13, 2020.

Subject: University further restricts travel, will cancel large events

The news on COVID-19 is rapidly evolving. Today, President Trump declared a national state of emergency and Governor Parson declared a state of emergency for Missouri. Our Executive Team has met and believes additional changes are warranted to protect our students, faculty and staff.

Domestic and international travel restricted

The university is suspending all university-related and sponsored travel that exceeds 150 miles.

This applies to university travel for all faculty, staff and students located in southwest Missouri. Exceptions may be approved by the university provost or president.

This travel suspension is effective immediately and will continue through April 15. The timeframe will be revisited as warranted.

Employees should discuss all current or future travel plans with their supervisor or department head. If you are an advisor of a student organization, please review any university-related travel plans they might have.

Events restricted

To slow the spread of the disease, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Springfield-Greene County Health Department recommend the cancellation of events with attendance of more than 250 people. The university is following this recommendation.

Missouri State is canceling all university-sponsored events with greater than 250 attendees scheduled to occur prior to April 15.

In addition, university-sponsored events with less than 250 attendees will be assessed for risk to the campus community and the attendees.

The university is also working with promoters who have leased our facilities to discuss their specific event and make them aware of the community’s guidelines.

Event and meeting services will contact meeting planners to discuss which events may need to be adjusted or cancelled. A worksheet that will be used to evaluate risk will be posted on the coronavirus website next week.

When scheduling an event, please include the number of attendees.
