College Scholarships

There are several College Scholarships available for undergraduate and graduate students. These include:

  • The Strong Family Graduate Scholarship
  • The CHPA General Scholarship
  • The J.C. and Sara Young Scholarship

Selection criteria

 To be considered for this scholarship you must:

  • Be a degree seeking student in the College of Humanities and Public Affairs
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

College of Humanities and Public Affairs Scholarship Fund

Selection criteria

Awarded to a full-time sophomore or greater with a declared major or minor in the College of Humanities and Public Affairs. Must have an overall GPA of 3.0.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

J.C. and Sarah Edna Young Endowed Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time student with a declared major in the College of Humanities and Public Affairs. When awarded to incoming freshmen consideration will be given to high school academic performance and leadership. Current students must be a sophomore or greater with an overall GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to graduates from high schools in Wright or Texas Counties in Missouri, if none meet requirements preference then given to graduate of all Missouri high schools. Students required to submit one page paper outlining their experience in service and leadership. Awarded with regard for financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Jack Knight Endowed Scholarship

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award will be an undergraduate student in good academic standing. They must be enrolled full-time and be seeking a major with the Philosophy department.

The student will hold the scholarship for one academic year. It may be renewed, but the student must reapply and be considered with all other candidates.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Keever Trust Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and values dependent on the decisions of the scholarship selection committee, but awards are generally for at least $1,000. Generally 2 - 4 scholarships are awarded.

Application

Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Scholarships will be awarded annually to no less than two individuals seeking degrees within the College of Humanities and Public Affairs with cumulative GPAs of 2.5 or higher. Recipients must be enrolled full-time.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Lee and Wanda Holden Scholarship

Selection criteria

$1,000 scholarships will be awarded annually to full-time juniors or seniors seeking degrees in the College of Humanities and Public Affairs in either the History or Political Science Departments.  Preference will be given to students from Birch Tree, MO or Mountain View, MO.  Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, and preference will be given to students with financial need. Recipients must exhibit potential for a career in public service and recognize the responsibility to give back; qualities consistent with the legacy of Dr. David Heinlein, who was dedicated to public affairs long before it became the official mission of the University, and the legacy of Dr. Alice Bartee, who served as a model and mentor for students interested in serving the public good.  Evidence of this commitment will be outlined in an essay discussing the student's commitment to service.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

May Kennedy McCord Scholarship Fund

Selection criteria

The Recipient of this award will be an undergraduate student properly enrolled full time and in good academic standing at Missouri State University with a minor in Ozark Studies, or a graduate student who commits to doing work in Ozark Studies. A preference will be given to a candidate who shows true interest in the work of May Kennedy McCord. Recipient should have a cumulative GPA 3.0. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Reverend John Bettmann Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to students properly enrolled at Missouri State University – one to an undergraduate student seeking a degree in Sociology, and the second to an undergraduate student seeking a degree in Philosophy.  In order to be eligible students should maintain academic excellence as demonstrated through a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.  Students should be of junior or senior status while receiving the scholarship.  Students should demonstrate a commitment to community service and volunteerism as demonstrated through an essay and resume describing their involvement and commitment to such activities.  Preference shall be given to students with financial need, but it is not required.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Richard and Debra Adams Scholarship

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award must be a full-time student properly enrolled at Missouri State University. Student must be seeking a degree in the College of Humanities and Public Affairs. Preference will be given to students with financial need and first-generation students.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Steve and Nancy Campbell Scholarship

Selection criteria

Scholarships will be awarded annually to students properly enrolled full-time at Missouri State University, with a preference for those students seeking degrees within the College of Humanities and Public Affairs. Students must have graduated from a Missouri high school, must have financial need, and must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

The Strong Family Graduate Scholars Endowment Fund

Value

Number and value of awards dependent on the availability of funding, but awards are generally for $4,000 - $5,000.

Application

Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a student enrolled in 18 hours over the course of the academic year, and admitted to a graduate program in the College of Humanities and Public Affairs with an overall GPA of 3.25. Student must submit two letters of recommendation from undergraduate professors.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed.
