How to Join an NPHC Fraternity or Sorority

Requirements to Join an NPHC organization

All students who want to join a fraternity or sorority must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 2.5, community service experience, and involvement in clubs or community activities. Nevertheless, each NPHC organization has its own requirements set by their (inter)national organization and the Missouri State chapter. Please contact the Missouri State chapter that you are interested in for more information. 

Membership Intake

Each NPHC fraternity and sorority brings in new members at various times of the year through a process called Membership Intake. National Pan-Hellenic Council at Missouri State do not allow undergraduates to join until they have completed at least one semester of school and have shown academic achievement. Typically, a student must obtain a collegiate GPA of a 2.6 or higher, community service experience, and involvement in clubs or community activities. Nevertheless, each NPHC organization has its own requirements set by their (inter)national organization and Missouri State University. Membership Intake Tips:

Ask the right questions.
  • What are your organizations values?
  • What does the organization represent and stand for?
  • What is the Fraternity/sorority your interested in doing on campus and in the community?
  • What is the organization's GPA requirement?
  • What community service does your organization do?
  • What other organizations are your members involved in?
  • What kind of time commitment is involved as a member?
Research and Get to Learn about the individual organization.
  • You are deciding to make a commitment to be apart of an Fraternity/Sorority begin to look up over the National and chapter websites to learn about the organizations.
  • Book recommendations: The Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities and Sororities by Lawrence Ross. (Feel Free to Check out the book for free in the University library and or in the office of Student Engagement).
Attend and participate in Greek events.
  • This includes themed weeks, chapter programming and community service projects.
  • Attend an interest or informational meeting for the chapter(s) in which you are interested
Show your involvement on campus.
  • Get involved in an student organization, community group, etc.
