Admission requirements

Students must have a combined GPA (Missouri State and transfer) of 2.50 or higher or a GPA of 2.75 or higher for the most recent 30 hours of course work in order to be admitted to the degree program.

Major requirements (36 hours):

  1. ENG 321(3), 373(3), 377(3), 421(3), 422(3), 487(3), 500(3), 574(3).
  2. Four courses from: ENG 473(3), 570(3), 572(3), 573(3), 575(3), or approved upper-division cognate courses for a total of not fewer than 36 hours.
  3. Public Affairs Capstone Experience will be fulfilled by completion of ENG 421(3), 422(3), and 574(3).
  4. Minor required (or second major).
  5. Specific Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements

Admission requirements

  2. Three courses from: ENG 570(3), 572(3), 573(3), 575(3), or approved upper-division cognate courses for a total of not fewer than 36 hours.
  3. Public Affairs Capstone Experience will be fulfilled by completion of ENG 421(3), 422(3), and 574(3).

Restriction on use of English courses for majors and minors in the Department of English

  1. English courses counted toward the major cannot be counted toward the minor.
  2. English courses counted toward the major or minor cannot be counted toward the BA Fine Arts requirement.
  3. With the exception of ENG 110, ENG 210 and ENG 221, English courses counted toward the major or minor can also be counted toward the General Education requirements.

Accelerated graduate program in Writing-Technical/Professional Writing Track Only

Eligible Missouri State undergraduate students may apply for admission to the Technical/Professional Writing track within the Writing program and begin taking graduate course work as they complete the work for a bachelor’s degree. A maximum of 12 hours of graduate credit may be counted toward both the undergraduate and graduate degree (Mixed Credit). Refer to the Graduate Catalog for specific admission requirements.
