As an RNFA, you can work for a hospital, a physician or be self-employed.  Your earning potential increases as you gain education and experience.

  • The Institute of Medicine recommends that RNs practice to the full extent of their education and training. The RNFA certificate prepares you for the expanded role of first assist at surgery.
  • After you complete this program, you can take the RNFA certification exam.
  • All 50 state boards of nursing recognize the RNFA role as being within the scope of nursing practice.
  • Hospitals and surgeons face the financial constraints of today’s health care marketplace. The demand for RNFAs will increase.
