January 18, 2008
8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
Attending: Dale Moore (Chair), Dr. Michelle Visio, Emily McGee, Teresa Steele
Absent: Jana Estergard, Dr. Wes Scroggins, Sara Clark
Guest: Dr. Charlene Berquist
Dale Moore began the meeting by stating that he will meet with Pat Day regarding our committee to try to coordinate activities. He then told the group that he has requested $3,000 from Greg Burris to cover the expenses of the focus groups, and hopes to hear something soon.
The group decided that e-mails should be sent to those who have volunteered to serve in the focus groups, and Michelle Visio and Char Berquist offered to help Dale with this task. It was discussed whether each group should have its own specifically worded request, and it was thought it would be best to have a generic request, with some tweaking if needed.
Michelle indicated that she was waiting to file a continuation of the IRB request until she received a consent form that will be used for the focus group members. Char indicated she will send one to her. Char asked if Michelle would send a copy of the original IRB request, and Michelle indicated she would. Michelle mentioned she had sent via e-mail to the members of the committee a draft of a report to Dr. Nietzel, and she requested everyone read it over and send her their comments.
Dale asked the committee at what point they should meet with someone from Financial Services to discuss the budget for the committee’s recommendations. It was agreed that it would not be necessary until the committee had received all the data from the focus groups and then formed their recommendations. Dale stated he would meet with Kent Kay once the recommendations were complete.
Char was asked if it would be useful for her students that will be helping with the focus groups to meet with the committee and she indicated that it would. Teresa offered to reserved Carrington 314D for the February 1, 2008, meeting in order to have room for everyone. A pilot focus group will be held on February 8, 2008, and Teresa will work on getting a room in Plaster Student Union.
Char gave each person a handout that showed each type of focus group and a tentative timeline of the activities to be done. Those members present felt the timelines were realistic and agreed to move forward.
The group agreed to meet again on Friday, January 25, 2008, at 8:30 in Carrington 104.
