Dale Moore began the meeting by welcoming everyone and introducing the new member of the group, Emily McGee, who is filling the position left vacant by LaDonna Hansen.
The group then began discussing the proposed survey on university culture, and Michelle Visio noted that George Mason University uses a different scale than what had been suggested.
Sara Clark questioned the need for another survey and suggested that we look at the comments from the original survey to glean areas that the group felt should be brought up during the focus groups. It was suggested that the group select the top issues that are noted in the comments from the original survey, and then discuss further in focus groups. While discussing is occurring in the focus groups it will be possible to detect culture issues at that time. Sara Clark also noted that work load issues were not addressed in the original survey, and show up in the comments.
It was suggested that the group do a survey of benchmark institutions in regards to number of employees versus number of students to see if MSU is comparable to them. It was mentioned that there should be two separate focus groups – one to discuss work load issues and one to discuss top issues from the original survey. This will help to further clarify the work-life issues here at Missouri State.
Dale Moore stated that the next meeting will be used to develop questions for the focus groups, and directed each member of the committee to bring two or three questions that might be used. The goal is to hold the focus groups during the month of December.
The group agreed to let Teresa Steele find a new day and time for the committee to meet, as there have been conflicts. Teresa will notify the group members with the new day and time once she has found one that will work for everyone.
