but because they refuse to be changed by the world.”

Annual Wellness Incentives – SAVES YOU $360 in 2010

As in the last two years, all full-time faculty and staff hired before July 1, 2009 who utilize the MSU health insurance plan will be required to complete a yearly Health Risk Assessment (HRA), Tobacco Use Statement and now a Health Insurance Education Component in order to eliminate any out of pocket insurance premiums being deducted from your paycheck in 2010.

This year, we have a new HRA tool through HealthMedia, Inc., which is much more user-friendly and provides valuable, interactive information for each employee. The premium deduction amount will remain the same as it has been the last two years for those that choose not to participate in the wellness initiatives - $30($10 per item) per month if these requirements are not fulfilled. That is a $360 savings in 2010 if these steps are taken. Employees have until October 31st 2009 to complete these steps.

START Walking Program

The Issue: Cardiovascular disease is our nation's No. 1 killer.  Physical inactivity significantly increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.  Seventy percent of American's don't get enough exercise, blaming lack of time and lack of motivation.

The Action: Individuals will gain about two hours of life expectancy for each hour of regular exercise, even if they don't start until middle age.

Brisk walking for as little as 30 minutes a day can bring heart-health benefits and can reduce an employee's chances for stroke by lowering bad cholesterol (LDL) levels and high blood pressure

Participants may purchase a pedometer for $20 from Taylor Health and Wellness to monitor their progress.
