- You will first need to ensure that the Smart YouTube plugin is enabled. In the WordPress dashboard for your blog, go to the Settings menu on the lower left side of the window and click the Smart YouTube link.
- Follow the instructions located here. You can decide whether to allow videos to be embedded in posts and/or in comments.
- Once the plugin has been enabled, use the code for pasting links from YouTube into your blog to embed them as video:
- httpv://[link] for regular video.
- httpvh://[link] for high quality video.
- httpvhd://[link] for HD quality video.
- httpvp://[link] for playlists.
Using RSS to feed video info from YouTube
YouTube will create an RSS feed with updates of new video uploads to your channel that you can use in other social media networks.
- Navigate to your YouTube Channel or the Channel you want to re-purpose content from.
- In the address bar of your browser, there will be an RSS icon for the upload feed on this page. Click this to view the RSS feed.
- Copy the new URL in the address bar to post it in any social media tool that requires an RSS feed to pull new content. Some ideas for using this are:
- In a Facebook Page - add the RSS feed from YouTube to the Notes application as you would a blog or any other RSS feed.
- In Twitter - add the RSS feed from YouTube using Twitter Feed to let your followers know that a new video has been uploaded.
- In Web Press - list your most recent video uploads following these instructions.
AutoSharing YouTube with Twitter
YouTube has a feature that allows users to conveniently link their YouTube and Twitter accounts so that when new content is uploaded to YouTube, a tweet is automatically generated in Twitter.
- In YouTube, go to your Account Settings by scrolling over your username in the top right corner, and click Account.
- Click the Sharing link in the left hand menu.
- On this page under AutoShare, click Twitter to to add that service to your AutoSharing.
- You may be asked to provide your username and password to confirm this decision. Twitter will also ask you to provide your credentials to allow Google to access your Twitter account. This is because YouTube uses Google services to connect with Twitter. Enter your Twitter username and password if you are not already logged in and click Allow.
- New video uploads will now automatically create tweets in Twitter.
