www.missouristate.edu Upgrade

Details of Upgrade

  • What: www.missouristate.edu server being upgraded
  • When: October 16, 2006
  • Why:
    • Better security and server stability
    • FrontPage extensions removal
    • New web farm setup

What does this mean?

  • After October 16, 2006, only Web Press sites will be hosted under www.missouristate.edu

Scenario: My site already uses Web Press.

  • The upgrade will not affect your site.

Scenario: My web address doesn’t begin with www.missouristate.edu

  • The October 16 upgrade will not affect your site.
  • Examples of sites not affected include courses.missouristate.edu and www.faculty.missouristate.edu

Scenario: I don’t want to move to Web Press.

  • Web Press is recommended but not required. Sites can still be hosted on the central web servers, but they will be moved to a new address.  The new address is typically formatted as sitename.missouristate.edu A redirection will send visitors to the new address.

Scenario: I’m converting to Web Press, and I plan to be finished by October 16.

  • You’ll be set for the upgrade as long as you’re finished by October 16.
  • If you don’t finish by October 16, your site will likely still work after the upgrade. You just won’t be able to edit the site until after you complete the Web Press conversion.

Scenario: I don’t have time to convert to Web Press before October 16.

  • You can move your site to a new web address and still convert to Web Press as time permits.
  • You can hire Web Works to convert your site. (Cost is roughly $3/web page.)
