The Web Developers Users' Group met on August 18, 2003, at 3:00 PM in the Parliamentary Room, PSU 313.

Tips for publicizing links

Sara Clark, Missouri State Web Coordinator, discussed several tips for publicizing links. For more information on links publication see her Tips for Publicizing Links page.

The WDUG members discussed other tips for link publication, such as deleting trailing spaces after links in emails. This makes copying and pasting the link into a browser easier.

Email Newsletters

The group discussed several issues concerning email newsletters, sending mass email and unsolicited email. Some of the topics covered were:

  • Missouri State information technology policies limit the number of recipients for an outgoing email to 250.
  • Computer Services is currently working on policy for a system that provide email lists for groups with more than 250 recipients.
  • Sending an opt-in email prior to sending bulk email is a polite method to safeguard against spamming individuals.

Outlook Web Access Updated

Outlook Web Access has received an upgrade to the 2003 version. Along with a new look, the 2003 version provides most of the features available through Outlook and is faster than the previous version. This new email system is an official University email client, and the legacy Bearmail system will be removed entirely in December of 2003.

Course and Student Organization web site migration complete

All of the course and student organizational web pages stored on the centralized web servers have been moved to a newer and faster web server, Tholian. This does not affect how you access or edit your web pages.

New web site statistics available

The web statistics for the month of July are now available on the Logs web site.
