The Web Developers Users' Group met on April 5, 2004, at 2:00 PM in the Parliamentary Room, PSU 313.
Announcements
Sara Clark, Missouri State Web Coordinator, gave the following announcements:
- A student group is being formed to discuss the future of the Missouri State web. Volunteers should email her at saraclark@missouristate.edu
- The new Financial Aid web site should be rolled out on Monday, April 19. All web developers who are linking directly to Financial Aid pages should check their sites for broken links.
- A student worker position on the Web Services team will be opening at the end of the semester. To apply, students should email their resumes to saraclark@missouristate.edu
Training opportunities
Web design
Qian Qian, Assistant Professor in the Art and Design Department, gave a presentation on web design. He used a series of web sites to demonstrate different design principals.
Some of the topics he discussed were:
- Using white space for emphasis.
- Using style guides to provide consistent web design across a large organization.
- The importance of clear navigation.
- How the site design creates a specific user experience.
- The experience conveyed with the different types of graphics: vector, pixel and 3D.
Summer meetings
The group discussed whether or not to have meetings during the summer months. It was decided to wait until the fall semester to hold the next series of WDUG meetings.
Next meeting
The next WDUG meeting will be held in the Parliamentary Room, PSU 313, on April 28, 2004, at 11:00 AM. Thom Hutchison will present the usage of a blog, a journal that is published on the web.
