Project ShIFT (shaping inclusion through foundational transformation) is a U.S. Department of Education grant designed to provide support for studying and enhancing disability practices and procedures at institutions of higher education. We explored disability studies and how new perspectives can be applied to our office practices to facilitate change in the campus perception of disability including service delivery and curriculum design. This three year grant aims to improve higher education quality for students by promoting disability inclusion at a foundational level.
The first year of the grant focused on the role of the Disability Resource Center, our service delivery, and subtle messages we sent about disability. The document below, ShIFT Happens, notes the foundational transformation we began with our office. It is the beginning of the paradigm shift and how it occurred on our campus.
