Two-Year: (Student Academic Advisement Center - SAAC): Academic advisement for all students at Missouri State-West Plains is the responsibility of the full-time faculty and the Student Academic Advisement Center. The SAAC is also responsible for Veterans certification. The SAAC and faculty advisors subscribe to the philosophy of “intrusive advising” which means that advisors do not wait for students to have academic problems, but contact them to set up appointments throughout the course of the year. When students initially enroll at Missouri State-WP, they are assigned to SAAC for advisement for at least one semester. Students making satisfactory academic progress are then assigned to a faculty advisor.
Two-Year: (Academic Support Center): The Academic Support Center provides students with resources and skills necessary for success in their academic pursuits. The ASC provides a computer lab, tutoring services, a writing center, written materials, videos and brush-up programs that can assist a student in the academic realm. The campus Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) and assistive technology are located in the ASC.
Four-Year: (Student Academic Advisement Center): The COBA advisement center will handle advisement via telephone, e-mail, or BearNet. In addition, an “interactive orientation” will be held for interested students prior to the first class meeting. Similar arrangements will be established as additional degree programs are offered.
Four-Year: (Academic Support Center): The resources and services of the West Plains Academic Support Center will be available to students enrolled in Springfield degree programs at the West Plains Campus.
Mountain Grove: (Student Academic Advisement Center): Students who attend the Mountain Grove Campus as Missouri State-WP students receive academic advisement from the Mountain Grove assistant coordinator. In addition, the coordinator of SAAC tracks the academic progress of the students and provides intrusive advisement as needed. Students who attend the Mountain Grove Campus as Missouri State-Springfield students receive academic advisement from the Springfield advisement center.
Mountain Grove: (Academic Support Center): Students who attend the Mountain Grove Campus as Missouri State-WP students are eligible to use all of the support services available at the ASC. This means, however, that students must travel to West Plains. Efforts are underway to determine ways to share the resources and have many of them available at Mountain Grove. Students who attend the Mountain Grove Campus as Missouri State-Springfield students are also welcome to use the services provided by the ASC. At the present time, this would necessitate a trip to West Plains. As resources are made available at Mountain Grove, all students will be eligible to use them.
