Library Services

  1. Library Administration Springfield Campus libraries report to the Dean of Library Services, who reports to the Provost. Evans Library at Mountain Grove Campus is administered through the Springfield Campus Meyer Library in cooperation with the Research Campus and Director of the State Fruit Experiment Station. The Springfield Campus libraries and Evans Library provide services for students enrolled through Springfield or Mountain Grove programs on campus, online, and in their respective extended learning programs.

    Garnett Library reports to the Chief Academic Officer on the West Plains Campus. Garnett Library supports Missouri State-West Plains programs at West Plains, Houston, Shannon Hall in Mountain Grove, the Dalian Campus  library, online classes, and extended campus programs.

    The University’s Libraries work cooperatively in a system approach.

  2. Common Library Platform (MOBIUS Consortium)

    All of the University’s Libraries participate in the statewide Common Library Platform (CLP), which utilizes the Innovative Interfaces, Inc., library system. As a result, all libraries have shared cataloging, circulation, and access to shared databases and the Web-based patron catalog. Meyer Library is responsible for notifying all Missouri State University library locations of changes in software, technology, and procedures in any shared operations.

  3. Intra-Library Loans

    Online interlibrary loan article request forms provided by Meyer Library are used by Missouri State students, faculty and staff outside the Springfield area to request copies of articles from in-house journals in the Meyer Library periodical collection. Copies of these articles are provided in electronic format when possible for pick up through University e-mail. When e-delivery is not possible, articles can be faxed or sent via MOBIUS courier to the Missouri State University  library of the user’s choice.

    Meyer Library’s ILL Unit processes such intra-library loan article requests for students, faculty, and staff outside the Springfield area.

    Books are exchanged between the Missouri State University libraries by MOBIUS courier. Shipping of books from Meyer Library is done by the Circulation Department.

  4. Inter-Library Loans

    Books (unavailable from MOBIUS) and articles (unavailable from Missouri State University libraries) can be requested with online interlibrary loan request forms provided by Meyer Library.

    Interlibrary Loan (ILL) books are shipped through the MOBIUS courier service for pick up at the Missouri State University library of the user’s choice. Springfield campus patrons pick up ILL books at Meyer Library. Students in remote locations obtain ILL services through their local  libraries.

    ILL articles are provided in electronic format when possible for pick up through University e-mail. When e-delivery is not possible, articles can be faxed or sent by MOBIUS courier to the Missouri State University  library designated by the patron.   5. Online Circulation and Direct Patron Borrowing

    All Missouri State University libraries participate in online circulation through MOBIUS. Books may be requested from any MOBIUS library using Direct Patron Borrowing. Books are shipped through the MOBIUS courier system.

    Meyer Library Circulation Department informs other Missouri State University libraries of SWAN and MOBIUS circulation updates.

  6. West Plains Student Data Transfer

    Essential student data are sent by West Plains Computer Services on a weekly basis and meet Meyer Library’s automation criteria. Data are loaded by Computer Services on the Springfield campus.

  7. Shared Online Cataloging
    Meyer Library is responsible for cataloging all materials except those acquired by Garnett Library and its satellite libraries.

    Garnett Library is responsible for Garnett Library cataloging, including cataloging for Missouri State-West Plains extended campus facilities.

    All cataloging librarians in the Missouri State University libraries share the responsibility of maintaining the SWAN bibliographic and authority databases.

    Meyer Library Cataloging and Systems departments inform other Missouri State University libraries of SWAN and MOBIUS cataloging updates.

  8. Collection Development and Acquisitions

    Library materials acquisition and collection development are done by Garnett and Meyer Libraries for their respective collection responsibilities. Library materials budgets are administered separately.

    Database acquisition and maintenance are administered by Meyer Library for Missouri State University libraries in support of University programs. When system-wide access is not covered by the basic licensing fee, special funds have been provided from a central University budget line.

  9. Library Instruction

    The Department of Library Science offers a minor in Library Science and a graduate level Library Science program for state certification as Library Media Specialist and/or as part of the Masters in Education with a specialty in Technology or Reading. The program is also part of a cooperative master’s degree arrangement offered through the University of Missouri-Columbia.

    West Plains campus offers LIS 101 Introduction to the Library. The curricular process is separate at the West Plains campus.

  10. Support for West Plains Extended Campus Classes

    Garnett Library is responsible for library orientation for Missouri State University-West Plains classes held at Houston, Mountain Grove, and Dalian, China. For West Plains courses offered in Mountain Grove, an assistant at Shannon Hall processes MOBIUS requests for Missouri State University-West Plains students and provides reserve services for West Plains instructors and students.
