Environmental Management

  1. HAZARDOUS MATERIAL POLICY AND COMPLIANCE

    Purchase--West Plains/Mountain Grove Campus responsibility. The West Plains Business Office/Director, Fruit Science will assure compliance with the guidelines in the Hazardous Materials Policy by monitoring acquisition of hazardous materials. Only quantities required for instruction and/or research will be purchased. No hazardous material will be purchased without requesting a Material Safety Data Sheet.

    Storage--West Plains/Mountain Grove Campus responsibility. The West Plains Business Office/Director, Fruit Science will assure compliance with the guidelines in the Hazardous Materials Policy regarding the storage of hazardous materials. They/He will also inspect and ascertain good housekeeping practices, proper organization of chemicals, and will establish a chemical tracking system for the campus.

    Inventory--West Plains/Springfield Campus responsibility. The West Plains Business Office/Hazardous Waste Coordinator will conduct an annual inventory no later than February 1 of each year, and will furnish appropriate agencies with copies. Also, an inventory list will be provided to the Department of Environmental Management, Springfield Campus. Annually, the Department of Environmental Management will inspect all areas where chemicals may be located. Guidelines in the Hazardous Materials Policy will be followed.

    Identification--West Plains/Springfield/Mountain Grove Campus responsibility. Users are responsible for the identification of hazardous materials that they acquire or may be located in West Plains/Mountain Grove Campus facilities. Guidelines for the identification shall be under the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 1910.1200 of Title 29, and Title 49, Part 100.

  2. HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL

    Identification--West Plains/Mountain Grove Campus responsibility. Users will identify chemicals that are considered hazardous waste and notify the Department of Environmental Management on the Springfield Campus when the accumulation is at a level for disposal. The Department of Environmental Management is available to assist with hazardous material identification.

    Preparation--West Plains/Mountain Grove Campus responsibility. Originators will prepare hazardous waste in accordance with disposal requirements.

    Permits--Springfield campus responsibility. The Department of Environmental Management, Springfield Campus, will obtain the necessary EPA/DNR permits for the West Plains/Mountain Grove Campus, and prepare all chemical manifests and sign the necessary paperwork.

    Disposal--Springfield Campus responsibility. The Department of Environmental Management, Springfield Campus, will coordinate the pick-up date for disposal and be present at West Plains/Mountain Grove to manifest the waste.

    Training--West Plains/Mountain Grove Campus responsibility. Campuses will arrange training in HM181/126F certification for their designated hazardous waste disposal employee. The Department of Environmental Management is available to assist with training requirements.
