Bachelor of Social Work

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program mission is consistent with the public affairs mission of MSU. The BSW program's mission is to prepare students for entry-level generalist practice as a professional social worker or to continue their formal education in social work or another graduate discipline. With the liberal arts as its foundation, the vision for the BSW program is that graduates become ethical leaders in the social services with a commitment to community improvement and a respect for the diversity of its members.

The BSW degree of the School of Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the national standard-setting organization for social work education. This accreditation means that the social work program has met the high standards of CSWE and prepares students for beginning-level careers in the social work field.

 Completing an undergraduate degree at a CSWE-accredited program also has at least three other advantages:
  1. Eligibility for advanced placement in many CSWE-accredited master’s level programs in the United States;
  2. Eligibility for licensure in more than 25 states that require licensure for BSW level social workers; and
  3. Transferability of many, if not most, of your social work credit hours to other CSWE-accredited undergraduate programs.
