Our Mission

The purpose of Safe Zone is to create a network of allies for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning students and by doing so, to make the Missouri State University campus a safe, more supportive place. These allies will be trained students, faculty, and staff members who will serve as resources for members of the campus community who want more information or even to become more knowledgeable about the diversity of sexual orientation. Allies will be known by displaying the Safe Zone sign.

Our Objectives

  • Raise awareness of GLBTQ issues.
  • Reduce homophobia and heterosexism on campus--thereby making it a safer a freer environment for all members of our community regardless of sexual orientation.
  • Build skills for dealing with situations and questions.
  • Create resources for allies, students, and the campus community.
  • Develop a support network of students, faculty, and staff members for all students.
