PLAYFAIR is unlike anything else you have ever experienced. It's entertainment! It's fun! It's the perfect way to make new campus friendships! And PLAYFAIR is more than just an entertainment event – it is a teambuilding experience that has a long-lasting effect on the members of our campus community. PLAYFAIR is more than just a non-threatening way for your new students to meet each other – PLAYFAIR is a powerful program for campus unity and school spirit.
We will select 30 – 40 student leaders to help the professional facilitator lead this event. Student Assistants must be available starting at 5pm on August 22, 2008 and will work until 1am that evening.

TITLE:
Position Purpose:
Students serving on the PAW Planning Committee will be responsible for Missouri State’s 6th Annual Public Affairs Week. The time commitment for the spring semester will be approximately 6-8 hours per week, with increased hours during September 2008. Six chair positions are available and are described in detail in the attached application.

TITLE: Peer Leader
No Longer Taking Applications~ Check Back Spring 2009
Position Purpose:
The basic responsibilities of Peer Leader are helping IDS 110 students (answering questions, being a resource, and solving problems); becoming acquainted and working with a lead instructor; assisting with class activities and teaching; developing positive relationships with students; making a difference in lives of first-year students and helping them progress in their adjustment to college.

TITLE: SOAR Leader No Longer Taking Applications ~ Check Back Fall 2008
Position Purpose: SOAR leaders are current students who assist incoming students in their transition to university life by introducing them to opportunities and activities on campus, helping them build class schedules, and registering them for classes. SOAR leaders provide an essential role at Missouri State by preparing students for their college career and by serving as role models that new students can strive to emulate. |

TITLE: Resident Assistant No Longer Taking Applications ~ Check Back Spring 2009
Position Purpose:
The Resident Assistant (RA) facilitates the social, academic, and personal adjustment of students to the residence hall and university. The RA enforces the rules and policies of the Residence Life and Services Department and the University, and acts as a positive role model to residents and peer staff members. The RA develops a sense of community among residents as members of a floor, residents of a hall, and active participants in the residence life system.

TITLE: Judicial Board Member
Position Purpose: Judicial boards are comprised of faculty, staff and students who hear cases of students accused of violating University policy. The board will hear all relevant information and then make a determination if the accused student has violated policy and if so, and then what consequences are appropriate. Students serving in this role gain the invaluable opportunity to help promote and maintain Missouri State University's standards. |

TITLE: Upward Bound-Tutor
Position Purpose: The Tutor assists the high school students in reviewing course materials, answering questions, and preparing for examinations. The tutor also assists the students in developing stronger study skills and acts as a role model for the students. The students receiving tutoring will be high school students who plan to peruse a college degree after graduation.

TITLE: Student Tutor TRiO Student Support Services Position Purpose: This Position Offers Leadership building because of the need to be very organized to assist our students in achieving excellent grades. Tutors must meet with a student for three hours per week and for the full semester. This in itself lends to positive mentoring for TRiO students. Tutors will also assist with teaching the student good study skills when needed. Tutors are instructed to set the example for students, encouraging students to keep working and doing their best and to never give up on themselves.

TITLE: Bear Blitz Team
Position Purpose:
This group plans monthly volunteer projects called Bear Blitz Projects. These projects are designed to provide students, faculty, and staff with regular volunteer opportunities 1-2 per month. The Bear Blitz Team is designed to spread the word about volunteerism and its benefits to the volunteer itself and the community overall. Bear Blitz Team members serve as captains at all Bear Blitz Projects. These members serve their community and represent the Public Affairs Mission all around.
