Two placement exams and one waiver exam are offered as part of the SOAR orientation process.
Placement exams
Placement exams determine your level of skill in an area of study and your potential to succeed in a specific course. Your performance in a placement exam determines what courses you are eligible to enroll in.
The two optional placement exams you can take include:
- The Math Placement Exam offered during SOAR
- The Foreign Language Placement Exam offered online
Waiver exam
The optional Computers for Learning Waiver Exam is offered to students who feel they meet the minimum computer literacy requirements for MSU. Students who score 80 percent or better will be exempt from the general education requirement of CIS/CSC 101.
You can take this exam during SOAR, but you must register at least 48 hours in advance.
