Overnight Accommodations for SOAR

Student and family members attending two-day SOAR sessions during June and July are welcome to stay overnight in Blair-Shannon House, a residence hall on campus. The cost is $23 per person per night. Students can make accommodation reservations for themselves and their family members online during the SOAR registration process.

Blair-Shannon House has three-bedroom suites available, with one bathroom per suite.  Towels, soap and linens are provided, but students and family members should bring toiletries (toothpaste, shampoo, etc.).  Keep in mind that rooms are designed for student life; therefore, accommodations will not have the same amenities as a hotel room, such as radios or televisions in individual rooms.  Students and family members will stay in separate areas of the residence hall and will share a suite with other SOAR participants.  The use of tobacco products is not allowed inside the building or on campus.

Early arrival

If you would like to stay on campus the evening before your SOAR session, you may check in at Blair-Shannon House beginning at 5 p.m.  Front desk staff will be present 24 hours to assist with late night check-ins and other needs.

Due to space limitations resulting from summer camps and conferences, we will be unable to offer pre-session accommodations on Sunday, July 8 and Sunday, July 15; however, overnight accommondations for students and family members attending SOAR on Monday, July 9 and Monday, July 16 will be available.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Off-campus accommodations

Should you or your family members decide to stay off-campus, we encourage you to visit the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau web site or calling (800) 678-8767 to request a list of area hotels. Unfortunately, we cannot make recommendations concerning Springfield hotels.

Information for students attending our one-day SOAR programs in January, August, and June summer school sessions

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide on-campus accommodations for students and family members attending one-day SOAR programs.  Please view the Off-Campus Accommodations section above for information regarding local hotels and lodging.

If one-day SOAR attendees have signed a housing contract, they may have the option of moving into their residence hall room one to two days early for a small fee.  (This option is not available to students attending a two-day SOAR session or returning from a previous semester.)  Arrangements must be made with Residence Life and Services to ensure a student's room is ready for early arrival; please contact the department at least five business days before your desired arrival date.  Please contact Residence Life and Services at (417) 836-5536 or toll-free at (800) 284-7535 for more information about this option and to make arrangements.
