SOAR: Student Orientation, Advisement and Orientation

Overnight Accommodations

The availability of on-campus, overnight accommodations varies based on when you are attending SOAR.

Two-day SOAR sessions

Students attending a two-day session in June or July are required to stay on campus overnight. This cost is included in the student SOAR fee.

Staying on-campus overnight provides you several benefits:

  • You become more comfortable with campus life and learn what residence living is like.
  • It is more convenient and less expensive than staying at an off-campus hotel.
  • Meeting other Missouri State students is much easier.

Family Accommodations

Family members have the option of staying in overnight accommodations in Hutchens House at the rate of $25 per person, per night. Families will stay in a separate area than their students, and they should expect to share a suite with another family (each family will be assigned their own bedroom). Suites contain a shared bathroom.

Early Arrival

Accommodations are also available the night prior to your SOAR session for $25 per person, per night. You may check in the Hutchens House at any time after 5 p.m. the evening before your SOAR session. Front desk staff will present 24 hours to assist evening and late-night arrivals with checking in.

Making reservations

You make your accommodation reservations online during the SOAR registration process.

Packing for your stay

Students and family members will stay in separate areas of Hutchens House and will share a suite with other SOAR participants. Consider packing separate suitcases.

Towels, soap and linens are provided, but you should bring toiletries and a travel alarm clock. Please keep in mind that rooms are designed for student life; therefore, accommodations will not have the same amenities as a hotel room, such as radios or televisions in individual rooms.

As Missouri State University is a tobacco-free campus, tobacco use is prohibited inside the building and on campus.

Restricted dates

Pre-session accommodations for the nights of Sunday, July 13, and Sunday, July 20, will be unavailable due to summer camps and conference programs. Overnight accommodations for Monday, July 14, and Monday, July 21, will be available.

One-day SOAR sessions

We are unable to provide on-campus accommodations for students and family members attending the one-day SOAR program in January, June and August.

If you have signed a housing contract, you may have the option of moving into your residence hall room one or two days early for a small fee. This option is not available to students attending a two-day SOAR session or returning from a previous semester.

Arrangements must be made at least five days in advance of your arrival with Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services to ensure your room is ready. Contact Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services at 417-836-5536 or toll-free at (800) 284-7535 for more information about this option and to make arrangements.
