SOAR Application Process

Follow these steps to apply to become a SOAR leader:

  1. Complete the online application by visiting the SOAR Carousel Online Application.  All applications must be submitted by Monday, October 31 by 5:00 pm to be considered.
  2. Print two (2) faculty or staff recommendation forms by clicking the SOAR Carousel Reference Forms link to the left.  These recommendations must be completed by full-time employees of Missouri State University; recommendations by other students (such as resident assistants [RAs]) will not be accepted.  Graduate assistants may complete your reference forms only if they serve as your direct work supervisor or course instructor. 

    As the applicant, it is your responsibility--not the recommender's--to see that these forms are turned into the SOAR office by Monday, October 31 at 5:00 pm.
  3. Attend the SOAR Carousel session assigned to you via email.  Both sessions will meet in Plaster Student Union 313 on Saturday, November 5.  Session 1 will begin at 8:30 am; session 2 will begin at 1:30 pm.  You MUST attend the Carousel session assigned to you to be considered for a position as a SOAR leader.

SOAR Carousel

SOAR Carousel is an special interview process in which SOAR leader applicants are exposed to various activities and situations SOAR leaders typically encounter during summer sessions.

At Carousel, you will participate in icebreakers, be asked questions from a panel of mock students and parents, be interviewed by a faculty or staff member, and speak publicly.  Applicants will be placed into small groups and evaluated during four different activities:

  1. An individual interview with a faculty or staff member familiar with the SOAR program
  2. A mock student/family question and answer panel
  3. An impromptu public speaking activity
  4. Icebreaker and group problem solving activity

Through Carousel, applicants will have the opportunity to demonstrate his or her skills and personality to the Carousel evaluation team. 

All applicants must attend Carousel to be considered for a SOAR Leader position.
