The Missouri State University Poll Research Center, directed by Dr. Brian Calfano, has paired up with the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) to host a Young Leaders webinar on “Growth with Challenges: Muslim American Youth Identity at a Crossroads” today, May 24, at 8 p.m.

Dr. Day Ligon, assistant professor of biology, received a $27,787.50 grant from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. The grant will be used to support the project “Habitat Restoration and Population Assessment of Chicken Turtles and Crawfish Frogs at Bohler Seeps and Sandhills Preserve.”

The College of Natural and Applied Sciences at Missouri State University announced the winners of its annual Undergraduate Research Day during a ceremony following the event, held April 13. The event highlighted research in biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, astronomy, materials science, engineering, geography, geology, planning and mathematics.

Dr. Brian Calfano, associate professor of political science, recently spoke at a forum in Washington, D.C. hosted by the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) and the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding. The forum, “Can Muslims Swing the Vote? - A Look at American Muslim Engagement in the 2012 Election,” discussed the key role minority groups will play in the upcoming election.

Kristine Grbac-Shomaker, director of the Newborn Hearing Screening Project in the department of communication sciences and disorders at Missouri State University, has received an additional $24,120 in continuation funding from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to continue the Newborn Hearing Screening Project. The project, which is supported by contract number AOC10380266-003, provides hearing screening services, follow-up services and education for families of newborns who do not pass a hearing screening at birth, or that are diagnosed with hearing loss shortly after birth.
