I began teaching ancient history in the History Department and then moved on to teach in the Religious Studies Department. My heart and soul go into teaching students and helping them learn about the Bible.   I believe every student has great potential, and I invest a great deal of time in helping each one achieve academic success.   All of this has earned me both teaching and advising awards, and I have coauthored a beginning student textbook, Old Testament Text and Context.

I went into Biblical Studies because I grew up in a home where the Bible was treasured. Therefore, I was always anxious to learn more about the Bible, and studied it in College, Seminary, and Graduate School. In Seminary, I taught Greek to my peers, and decided that teaching students was a wonderful way to change the world for the better. I finished my Ph. D. at Brandeis University, and studied archaeology in Israel before coming to Missouri State University in 1970. I was able to pioneer Study Away with an excavation to Israel with 17 students in 1972.
