The first step in becoming a Religious Studies major is to make an appointment with the Department Head, Dr. Llewellyn, who will talk with you about the major. To make an appointment, stop in at the department office in 251 Strong Hall and talk with Carolyn Mayer, the Administrative Secretary. Or you may send her an email: cmayer@missouristate.edu.
After meeting with Dr. Llewellyn, Carolyn will help you with declaring the major if you haven’t yet done it and with your advisor assignment. If you wish, you may choose your advisor from among the Religious Studies professors you have already had for a class. This faculty member will work closely with you, guiding you through each step toward graduation.
It’s important to make an appointment to meet with your advisor right away so that he or she can get to know your interests, provide you with information about the major and the other courses you will need in order to earn your degree, and help you with course selection and scheduling. But your advisor is also there just to talk, especially if you have any concerns about your classes, professors, roommates, car, pets—you get the idea. We want to do all that we can to make your time at Missouri State and in Religious Studies go smoothly and be a rewarding experience.
