The Focus

The Registrar Review is a monthly newsletter designed to share academic-related information with the campus community.  Each month’s issue will include an area of focus, the “Monthly Transcript” which highlights that month’s activities and announcements and “The Banner Bonus” which will provide a high-level view of the latest Banner news from the Student Module.  You are welcome to forward this newsletter to others.  To be added or removed from this mailing list, please send an email to Registrar@missouristate.edu.  This newsletter will be archived onto the Office of the Registrar website under the “About Us” link.

  • The 2008—2009 Undergraduate Catalogs are on campus and is up online (more)
  • Faculty Senate passes +/ - grading system effective Fall 2009
  • Faculty Senate passes a new repeat policy, effective Fall 2009.  Under this policy students will be allowed to repeat any class, regardless of the grade and number of attempts, with no special permission required. (more)
  • Course renumbering will become effective Fall 2009.  All 500 level courses will be undergraduate only; 600-level “companion” courses will be created; most existing 600-level courses will be come 700-level.
  • The Board of Governors approved two changes to the FERPA policy (more)
  • The Summer 2008 final exam schedule has been changed, the newest version can be found online
  • Commencement Information
      • 1600 students participated in commencement ceremonies on May 16
      • We are currently working on clearing students who graduated.  There will be 1900 - 2000 students cleared with final numbers will be available on July 8.
      • The first transmission of graduates to the National Student Clearinghouse (the National Student Clearinghouse serves as our primary agent for degree and enrollment verifications (more)) was June 5 with a follow-up transmission on July 11
      • Graduation queries will be available by July 8 on the Faculty/Advisor Resource Center
  • 74,857 grades for students were posted on May 20
  • 730 incomplete grade notifications for Spring 2008 were sent to student.  These students have until the end of Spring 2009 to complete this coursework
  • 105 incomplete grade notification reminders were sent to students for Summer 2007 indicating that they have until the end of Summer 2008 to complete the coursework for the class.
  • Any grade changes received after May 19 will not appear on the students’ grade report, they will only appear on the students’ transcript
  • There are new standard meeting times approved for scheduling evening classes. Evening courses, will begin at 4:00, 5:00, 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m

The Banner Bonus

  • We go live with Banner in April 2009 for the Fall 2009 semester; Summer 2009 registration will be done in the legacy system, while Fall 2008 is done in Banner.
  • Department head and faculty are in the process of reviewing all prerequisites since Banner will enforce prerequisites at the time of registration.  All curricular items (on spreadsheets) must e fully approved by November 2008.
  • Programs of study (majors, minors, options, and certificates) have been entered in Banner.
  • Basic catalog information, such as titles, credit hours, courses descriptions and prerequisites have been manually entered into Banner.
  • Starting July 2008, departments will receive training on Banner class schedule building and will enter Fall 2009 class schedule into Banner (using Fall 2008 data).   The training will be done in small departmental groups.  The training schedule will be made available to you as soon as possible.

The following policies are currently under review:

    •  
      • Overload
      • $60 payment (and cancellation policy)
      • The refund schedule (for dropping courses)
      • The asterisk grade and last day to drop
      • The records retention policy
      • How to administer dual high school credit courses (registration and grading)
      • Overriding closed classes.
  • Firm decision that have already been made:
    •  
      • There is a strong commitment to retain advising notes in some form.
      • We will keep DarWin, our degree audit software.
      • +/- grading, and the new repeat policy become effective in Fall 2009 along with course renumbering
      • Prerequisites will be enforced at the time of registration.

Carrington Hall

The Office of the Registrar is located in Carrington Hall room 320.  We are open from 8:00 - 5:00 a.m. MTWF and 9:00- 5:00 a.m. on Thursdays.

 Staff Spotlight

Sebrina Glenn joined the Office of the Registrar as the Assistant Registrar of Records May 12, 2008.  Sebrina came to us from UNC where she served as the Assistant Director of Residence Life for 6 years.  She has a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration and has 11 years experience in higher education.

 U-Link will be what Banner is called at Missouri State. Each school that uses banner can choose their own name for the system.
