Improve your health through massage

Many of today’s health troubles can benefit from massage therapy because the massaging of soft issues affects many of our bodily systems. Massage therapy improves health by acting on the following systems:

  • Circulatory
  • Lymphatic or immune
  • Muscular
  • Nervous

Benefits of Massage

Massage is not just for relaxation there are therapeutic advantages as well: It is for Injury prevention and rehabilitation after injury, relieving headaches and muscle tension, helps prevent migraines, improving circulation, promotes better sleep patterns and reduces insomnia, toning muscles, sinus pressure reduction, reducing allergy symptoms, beating the weight loss plateau, improving range of motion, helps lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, stress and depression, reducing swelling, strengthens the immune system,  better  flexibility in athletes, reduces possible injuries in athletes and reduces joint pain

Massage appointments should be made two business days in advance. Appointments can be made during specified times.  If you would like to make an appointment at a different time, contact campus recreation at (417) 836-5334. Register at online services.

  • Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Monday-Thursday, 4-7 p.m.
  • Saturday, 9:30a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Massage therapy sessions are offered at the following rates:

Types of Massage Therapy Offered

Massage therapists at the Foster Recreation Center offer the following types of massages:

  • Deep tissue - A more specific treatment offering a deeper release based on your pain threshold.
  • General relaxation/therapeutic - A gentle treatment using long, slow strokes to melt away tension.
  • Prenatal - Gentle, relaxing massage for expecting mothers using comfortable bolstering and much needed pampering.
  • Reflexology - Stimulating the body’s own healing forces by locating and stimulating points on the ears, hands and feet which affect every organ, gland and muscle in the body.
  • Sports massage - Excellent pre- or post-event treatment that warms muscles, pumps out lactic acid and increases range of motion; helps recovery by 50 percent post-event and can increase efficient power by three to five percent.
