Outdoor Adventures offers a variety of trips and workshops to the campus community.  All activities are open to students, faculty, and staff.  You can register for any of the activities listed below by visiting our registration page here.

Rock Climbing Workshop   9/17   5PM    PSU 135

This workshop features an introduction to the practice of rock climbing.  It focuses on introducing key techniques like belaying, rappelling, top rope anchor setup, and much more.  This is a great workshop for those who may have been climbing before who wish to learn more about the pursuit itself, or those who have never been rock climbing.  The workshop lasts about 1 hour.   Register by 9/16.   Cost: FREE

Backpacking Basics Workshop   9/23   PSU 135

This workshop features tips and tricks in the world of backpacking.  Topics include gear selection, purchasing, packing, planning and executing.  We also focus on Leave No Trace ethics to ensure that we create the lowest impact in the natural world.  The workshop lasts about 1 hour.  Register by 9/22.  Cost: FREE!

American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Certification  10/21-22    PSU

The  American  Red  Cross  Wilderness  First  Aid  Basics  Course is a course for those who work, live, or play in remote areas  -  away from the usual EMS Service.  Even though emergency workers near these areas may be trained to search for and rescue those in need, often times, there is a delay in activating the EMS system.

Register by 10/19.  Cost: $65

Caving Basics Workshop   11/11  PSU 135

This is our most popular workshop.  It covers basic caving techniques such as planning, proper cave ethics, and what to bring to stay prepared.  We also cover cave types, history, and formations. Missouri alone is home to nearly 6,000 caves, and many more are found every year.  This workshop is recommended for those who wish to participate in the Caving Trips, but is not mandatory.  Register by 11/10.  Cost: FREE

Day HIke  9/12   Busiek State Park, Missouri

Our annual day hike is for those who want to get out into the Ozarks for a day only.  This trip is very laid back since there is no camping overnight.  Busiek State Park is located within an hour from Springfield and is filled with all kinds of things to see including streams, valleys, and 100% pure Ozark landscape!  Register by 9/10   Cost: Free!

Rock Climbing Trip 9/19-20   Sam's Throne, Arkansas

Another one of our popular trips over the years has been our trips down to Sam's Throne, a rock climbing area in Northwestern Arkansas.  This area was one of the first climbing areas to be developed in the Ozarks and is filled with climbing for all ability levels.  The highly featured Ozark sandstone makes perfect handholds, cracks, and pockets which seems as if this place was designed to be climbed; not to mention the spectactular views you get at the top!  Cost includes guides, transportation, food, and equipment.   Register by 9/17  Cost: $55

Sasquatch Hunt Backpacking Trip   9/26-27    Paddy Creek Wilderness, Missouri 

This is the second year for the Sasquatch Hunt Backpacking Trip.  Help Outdoor Adventures search for the elusive Mo-Mo (Missouri Monster) who as legend has it, has been wandering around the Ozark wilderness. Reports began in the 70's around Louisiana, Missouri.  It has been described as being over six feet tall, with black fur and red eyes with a head comparable to "a hairy pumpkin".  All backpacking abilities welcome, non-lethal momo hunting equipment is allowed (cameras, bait, nets, etc).  Register by 9/23.   Cost: $45

Paintball Trip  10/10   Paintball Outpost, Springfield

Come with Outdoor Adventures and play multiple rounds of fast paced paintball at Springfield's Paintball Outpost, a mult-acre facility which provides four different courts to play endless amounts of rounds.  Cost includes gun, mask, 500 paintballs and transportation.  Register by 10/8.   Cost:  $35

Rock Climbing 2 (Fall Break)   10/15&16   Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, Arkansas

Horseshoe Canyon is quickly becoming one of the midwests most sought out climbing areas.  Privately owned, this ranch has a natural fence line created by the sandstone cliffs which create the "horseshoe" that is home to the ranch's livestock.  This area caters to all skill levels of climbers.  Cost includes transportation, guides, equipment, food, and ranch camping/climbing fees.   Register by 10/9.   Cost: $55

Backpacking Trip  11/7-8   Hercules Glades Wilderness, Mark Twain National Forest

Join Outdoor Adventures on this two-day backpacking trip to Hercules Glades Wilderness, located in Mark Twain National Forest.  Magnificent views, high trails, and incredible wildlife make this area one of the most popular areas in the Ozarks to recreate.  Cost includes transportation, guides, equipment, and food.  Register by 11/4.  Cost:$45

Caving Trip 1 - 11/14  John Alva Fuson, MD Conservation Area

Being one of our most popular trips, we decided this year to hold both caving trips on the same weekend.  Both caving trips will visit John Alva Fuson, MD Conservation Area which is home to three distinct Missouri caves. We will visit Lowell and Little Smittle. Cost includes transportation, equipment, and guides.   Register by 11/11.  Cost: $15
