Medical Doctor-Doctor of Osteopathy

Information for Missouri State Students

There is no such thing as a "Pre-med Major".  Students interested in osteopathic medicine should choose a major in a field they enjoy and would be willing to use as an alternate career path if plans to attend osteopathic medical school do not work out. This major should include some of the prerequisites required by osteopathic medical schools; other prerequisites may be taken as part of a minor or as electives. Although it is not required, many students choose to major in a science area. Listed below are links to departments and colleges which may be of interest. You may also want to read the Premedical Student Handbook  (A few hard copies are available at the Advisement Center in University College Hall)

For information on how you can prepare for osteopathic medical school, contact a Premedical advisor within the department of your interest. If you do decide to meet with an advisor on this topic, please prepare for your appointment.
